First success for “Bon Schuur Ticino” after launch weekend in cinemas

"Bon Schuur Ticino" attracted 22,021 moviegoers to cinemas on its opening weekend. This is the comedy's best start since the pandemic. "Platzspitzbaby" had previously enjoyed an even more successful start.
"Bon Schuur Ticino" by Peter Luisi with comedian Beat Schlatter in the leading role was released in cinemas in German-speaking Switzerland and Ticino last Thursday. According to distributor DCM Film Distribution on Monday, the box office figures since then are "tantamount to the most successful Swiss cinema release since the pandemic". Previously, in January 2020, "Platzspitzbaby" had had an even more successful start.
The comedy "Bon Schuur Ticino" takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the different cultural sensitivities in the Swiss language regions. Luisi and Schlatter have filmed the thought experiment according to which Swiss voters have decided that only French will be spoken in the country.
The comedy relies on an audience that looks at their own country with self-irony and lots of laughs. "Platzspitzbaby", which was released in German-speaking Switzerland in January 2020, is a completely different story: Pierre Monnard's drama tells the story of a girl and her drug-addicted mother in Zurich.
The film sold 104,000 tickets ten days after its theatrical release. It remains to be seen whether "Bon Schuur Ticino" can match this. The film will not be released in French-speaking Switzerland until February 14, 2024.
