Bülach Hospital employees who can work more flexibly receive higher salaries. This salary model leads to a significantly lower fluctuation rate.
Since the introduction of the project in April 2023, the fluctuation rate at Bülach Hospital has fallen by 30 percent, according to a report in the NZZ newspaper on Monday. This was confirmed by Aleksandar Rubin from Bülach Hospital at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency
Specifically, employees can be divided into three levels, as the hospital also writes on its website: Fixed, Flex, Superflex. Fixed employees only work fixed hours and do not have to work nights. In return, they receive the usual basic salary.
Superflex employees receive a monthly bonus of 350 francs on top of their basic salary. In return, however, they have to work nights and stand in several times a year. Flex is roughly in the middle of these variants. The model can also be changed.
According to the article, it was not only the fluctuation rate that decreased. The sickness absence rate has also decreased. And by 20 percent. In addition, the hospital almost no longer needs temporary staff for short-term assignments.
The hospital won the Swiss HR Award 2024 in the "Retaining talent" category with this salary concept. According to the "NZZ" article, Manuel Portmann, Head of HR at Bülach Hospital, got the idea for this salary model from a highway service station where he worked in the 1990s.
