On Sunday, 19 members of the National Council were not re-elected. Some are disappointed, but still want to contribute to society. Mustafa Atici (SP/BS) failed to be re-elected on Sunday. "I have to come to terms with my defeat," Atici told the news agency Keystone-SDA on Monday. He said it had been a great privilege to represent Basel in the National Council. Atici does not know why he was not re-elected: "I ran a good campaign and received positive feedback." He will continue to fight for the important issues for him within the SP and in society, as he is a political person. This includes the issue of equal opportunities in education, which has been a major concern in the Commission for Science, Education and Culture in the National Council. And he is sure that he will not be bored as an entrepreneur, Atici added. Atici was the first Secondo to put himself forward as a candidate for the Federal Council to succeed Alain Berset, but he withdrew his candidacy in favour of the Basel Government Council Beat Jans. "Green parties must go over the books". Natalie Imboden, a Green Party member from Bern, regrets not being elected to the National Council. She attributes this to the rightward shift in Swiss politics and the close fourth seat the Greens held four years ago. "Someone has to be the one," Imboden said. Imboden showed self-criticism in her remarks. "We as Greens have to go through the books," she said. The Greens had the right answers, but the messages did not reach the population. It is still unclear what the future holds for Imboden professionally. "I don't have a Plan B," she said. However, she will continue to advocate for the climate as a political person. GLP is at a disadvantage. Roland Fischer, a National Councilor from Lucerne (GLP), expressed his disappointment at his dismissal. He had hoped to continue to contribute to the Financial and Foreign Policy Commission of the National Council. However, "it was not meant to be". Fischer attributes the decrease in the GLP's voter share to the fact that four years ago, they narrowly won a seat in the National Council with the help of the SP. This time, the SP won a seat with the support of the GLP due to the list connection. Personally, he has achieved a lot in the Foreign Policy and Finance Committees of the National Council with various initiatives. With greater probability, he will not run for office again in four years. He has now been in the National Council for the Green Liberals for eight years. ©Keystone/SDA
