The Swiss Federal Supervisory Board for Foundations has requested a statement from the World Economic Forum regarding allegations of discrimination against the World Economic Forum, which takes place in Davos GR. A decision on further steps will be made on the basis of the statement, the foundation supervisory authority announced on Friday in response to an inquiry.
The Tamedia newspapers were the first to report on the ESA Foundation Supervisory Authority's decision on Friday. The Foundation Supervisory Authority became aware of the allegations through a media inquiry from the "Wall Street Journal". In June, this US newspaper reported on an allegedly misogynistic and racist workplace culture at the World Economic Forum (WEF).
The WEF and its founder Klaus Schwab were subsequently accused of racial and pregnancy discrimination by an African-American employee. The plaintiff's position had been eliminated after her pregnancy leave. She was then replaced by a white, non-pregnant woman. The allegations are false, the WEF announced last Tuesday at the request of Keystone-SDA.
The WEF is legally organized as a foundation. The primary task of the ESA is to ensure that the foundation's assets are used in accordance with the statutes, according to the supervisory authority. Beyond this, the ESA does not have any management tasks.
However, the foundation supervisory authority has measures at its disposal if a foundation fails to meet its obligations. For example, the ESA can revoke a decision made by the foundation. As a last resort, the ESA can dissolve a foundation. However, these are rare extreme cases.
