Fraudulent tradesmen rip off pensioners in Vaud

The police caught two suspected fraudsters in Denens VD on Monday. The two Frenchmen had demanded excessive amounts of money from a pensioner for work they had allegedly carried out.
The men, aged 26 and 42, initially drew up a cost estimate of around 11,000 francs for various work on the house, according to the Vaud cantonal police on Wednesday. The 92-year-old pensioner made an initial down payment of 4,000 francs.
They then demanded a further 29,000 francs for additional costs for the roof. The Frenchmen cited the poor condition of the roof truss as the reason. After the pensioner had paid, the men demanded another 30,000 francs for alleged other problems.
The public prosecutor's office opened a criminal investigation into the two French nationals who were arrested. They were questioned as defendants and denied the allegations. All of the victim's money was recovered.
