Lucerne will be under the spell of drawn stories from March 9 to 17. This year's Fumetto festival once again offers exhibitions with a wide range of contemporary comics.
Argentinian artist Constanza Giuliani will be making a major appearance at the Fumetto with her exhibition "What's in the poet's body?" at the Lucerne Museum of Art. She transforms an exhibition space into a landscape. A comic in the form of a swarm of butterflies tells the story of Mariposa (butterfly).
Giuliani, who was born in 1984, developed the figure Mariposa in 2018 in the context of protests against violence against women. Her exhibition, a mixture of comic, painting and installation, explores the fundamental questions of existence, as stated in the festival program.
"The ultimate visual joke"
The legendary German satirical magazine "Titanic" has its own exhibition at Fumetto. Current illustrators of the magazine, which bears the subtitle "The definitive satirical magazine", will be showing their work in the B74 Raum für Kunst. The title of the exhibition is "Der endgültige Bildwitz".
Fumetto also includes current political topics. Antoine Cossé, who draws for the "New York Times" and "The Guardian", for example, can be seen at Ahoi with original drawings for his science fiction story "Metax". The theme of the dystopia is the overexploitation of nature.
Responsibility towards nature was also the theme of the Fumetto competition on the subject of meat. Over 1000 entries were received. The winning works and the nominees can be seen in the Red House, all entries are available digitally.
The winners of the Swiss-German cities' comic scholarship, which will be awarded for the last time in 2023, are presenting their work at the Kunsthalle. "Xoxo" is the title of the joint show by Iris Weidmann (Zurich), Nando von Arb (Zurich), Noémie Fatio (Biel) and Martin Oesch (Bern), whose comic styles are very different.
Fumetto is presenting a total of ten main exhibitions this year. In addition, there are over 40 small satellite exhibitions that can be seen in shop windows, neighborhood meeting places, hotels or other publicly accessible locations. Fumetto also includes a series of "Specials" and other events.
