The Geneva State Council presented a balanced draft budget for 2025 on Thursday. This draft contains planned tax cuts and at the same time strengthens social benefits.
The cantonal government is expecting a slight increase of CHF 4.3 million for the budget of just under CHF 11 billion, as announced by the State Council on Thursday. The budget is balanced for the first time since 2015.
For the coming year, an increase in tax revenue of CHF 424.4 million (+4.9 percent) is expected. On the expenditure side, the State Council is planning additional expenditure of CHF 565.3 million (+4.9 percent), according to the statement.
The additional expenditure should enable the State Council to support people affected by poverty and cover the costs of the asylum system. In addition, as decided by Parliament, public transport is to become completely or partially free of charge. The canton's contribution to the national financial equalization scheme will also increase.
