The Geneva Prosecutor's Office has opened a criminal investigation against a Geneva police officer accused of sexually assaulting a prostitute. The woman claims she was attacked by the man, who was not on duty, in 2018. The prosecution took action after the Swiss television station RTS aired a report with the prostitute's statements on Sunday. The investigation was launched even though no complaint had been received by the prosecutor's office, as stated on Monday. The Geneva Attorney General Olivier Jornot will be dealing with the case. In agreement with the commander of the Geneva police, the police investigation will be transferred to three police officers from the Inspection Générale des Services (IGS), all of whom are from the criminal police and have joined the IGS long after the events. The criminal proceedings opened by the Geneva Prosecutor's Office will refer to both the sexual assault mentioned by the sex worker and the way in which the facts were recorded by the police at the time. There is a suspicion that the police officer was covered up by colleagues.nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
