Higher Voter Turnout for a More Male National Council

On Sunday, 46.6% of eligible voters went to the polls for the National Council elections. This was an increase of 1.5 percentage points compared to 2019. The highest turnout was in Schaffhausen, with almost 62%. The SVP was the biggest winner, gaining nine seats and now having 62 in total. The Mitte, GLP and EVP have 41 seats between them. The SP and Greens have 64 seats in total, with the Greens losing five seats. The average age of the National Council is 49.5 years, slightly lower than in the previous legislature. The proportion of women in the National Council has decreased, with 77 women elected, seven fewer than in 2019. In the Council of States, 31 of the 46 seats have been filled, with the Mitte and FDP having 10 and nine seats respectively. Ten cantons will have to hold second rounds of voting to fill the remaining 15 seats.
