Hiring plans of Swiss companies slow down somewhat

Swiss companies' recruitment plans are slowing somewhat in view of the uncertain economic climate. While optimism is increasing among large corporations, very small companies see hardly any opportunities for growth.
This is the conclusion of a study published on Tuesday by recruitment agency Manpower. According to the analysis, the companies surveyed expect a net employment outlook of 29%. This is 4 percentage points lower than the previous quarter and the same quarter of the previous year.
Nevertheless, Switzerland is globally competitive, wrote Manpower. Our country ranks 6th worldwide and is 4 percentage points above the global average of 25 percent. This reflects the adaptability and skillful strategic orientation of Swiss companies, explained Manpower Switzerland CEO Eric Jeannerod in the press release.
Optimism is highest among large corporations. Among these, the net employment outlook rose by 20 percentage points compared to the previous quarter to 43%. This is also 9 percentage points more than a year ago.
The large organizations have strong confidence in economic development. In contrast, micro-enterprises with fewer than 10 employees, with a net employment outlook of 8 percent, apparently showed less confidence in positive growth opportunities.
Hiring intentions vary depending on the Swiss region. The Zurich region has the most competitive outlook with a net employment outlook of 40%. This is an increase of 7 percentage points compared to the previous quarter, but 4 percentage points below the previous year's figure, the report continued.
Northwestern Switzerland recorded the highest growth with a net employment outlook of 36%, an increase of 13 percentage points compared to the previous quarter. In contrast, Ticino is struggling with a negative net employment outlook of minus 14%.
