Hobby researchers to observe the behavior of pigs

People interested in pigs should watch online videos of domestic pigs to support science. The Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (Fibl) wants to use this participatory research project to gain insights into how wild domestic pigs are, as it announced on Tuesday.
Specifically, the amateur researchers are to watch recordings of pigs at the Panoramahof farm in Meggen LU and then answer research questions. According to Fibl, the findings can be used to design husbandry systems that are more species-appropriate and better tailored to the pigs' needs.
"The project provides both the public and researchers with unique access to pigs," said Mirjam Holinger, Co-Head of the Animal Husbandry and Breeding Group at Fibl, in the research institute's press release.
For this so-called citizen science project, which the Albert Koechlin Foundation has set up together with the Fibl and the Lucerne Nature Museum, the Panoramahof in Meggen has been equipped with over 20 video cameras.
