Hundreds of people showed their solidarity with the Palestinian people at a rally on Schützenmatt in Bern on Saturday afternoon. An estimated 400-500 people attended the rally, many of them waving Palestinian flags and holding up banners with slogans such as "Viva, Via Palestine" and "Israel Terrorist". The rally was organised by the Palestine Group Bern, who called for an end to violence, protection of human rights and humanitarian aid for Gaza. The rally was approved by the city's security director, who saw no evidence of a radical background from the organisers. The Bern Cantonal Police were present but kept a low profile. The 19-year-old organiser of the rally, Rima Faragalla, called on the attendees to refrain from any "dumb actions". Various speakers condemned the violence of Israel against the Palestinian people. The rally began to disperse around 4pm. The rally was a peaceful demonstration of solidarity with the Palestinian people, with the organisers calling for an end to violence, protection of human rights and humanitarian aid for Gaza.
