The Swiss Post inaugurated a new sorting facility at the Härkingen SO mail centre on Monday. The facility is capable of sorting up to 10,000 packages per day. Federal Councillor Albert Rösti attended the opening ceremony. This is the first time the Post has integrated a pure package sorting system into a mail centre, according to the Swiss Post. This allows employees to sort letters and packages of all sizes at the same location. Post chief Roberto Cirillo said this was "an important milestone for the Post". 160 new employees were hired and up to 30 million packages can be sorted per year. At the ceremony, Federal Councillor Albert Rösti said the new facility strengthens the public service, so that "reliable packages can be delivered to every corner of our country". Together with Landammann Brigit Wyss and the head of the mail centre Christian Mösch, Rösti and Cirillo pressed the yellow button to start the new facility. The Swiss Post's new sorting facility at the Härkingen SO mail centre will enable up to 10,000 packages to be sorted per day, with up to 30 million packages sorted per year. 160 new employees have been hired to operate the facility, which will help to deliver reliable packages to every corner of Switzerland.
