Italian arrested after riots at field hockey match in Ambri

A 27-year-old Italian man has been arrested in connection with the riots at an ice hockey match in Ambri TI at the beginning of October. The man, who lives in the Lugano region, is accused of attempted intentional homicide, attempted grievous bodily harm, endangering the lives of others and violating the Narcotics Act, among other things.
The man is in custody, as the Ticino cantonal police announced on Thursday. He had already been arrested on October 25. He is suspected of having thrown a pyrotechnic object in the Gotthard Arena in Ambri.
Several people were injured during rioting at the derby match on October 11. The incident occurred shortly before 11 p.m., according to the Ticino cantonal police. A pyrotechnic object was set off from the visitors' sector. This damaged a TV broadcasting van.
According to a police statement, several people present suffered minor injuries, mainly to their hearing. According to the Ticino broadcaster RSI, employees who were filming the games and were busy cleaning up after the TV broadcast were affected.
Later that night, riots also broke out in Rivera, south-east of Locarno. Among the twenty or so people involved were fans of the two ice hockey clubs from the canton, Lugano and Ambri.
The game in the sold-out Gottardo Arena with over 6700 spectators was won 2:1 by Ambri-Piotta.
