The number of occupations for which job registration is mandatory continues to decrease. Job advertisements for cleaning staff and auxiliary staff in offices and hotels, among others, will no longer be subject to registration in 2024. Economics Minister Guy Parmelin has confirmed the corresponding list.
This means that next year, 3.2 percent of the workforce will still be working in professions that are subject to the obligation, as announced by the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER) on Thursday.
This continues a downward trend: In the current year, 8.2 percent of the workforce worked in areas with mandatory job registration, compared to 19.9 percent in 2022.
Jobs for unskilled construction workers, for example, are still subject to the reporting requirement. With around 73,500 employees, this is the largest corresponding occupational group.
An occupation is added to the list as soon as the unemployment rate there is at least 5%. The reporting obligation is one of the measures with which Parliament implemented the popular initiative "Against Mass Immigration" of the SVP, which was adopted by the people and cantons in 2014, at legislative level. This means that companies must report vacancies to the regional employment centers (RAV). The aim is to make better use of the potential domestic workforce.
