Federal Councillor Karin Keller-Sutter believes that the outcome of the negotiations between Switzerland and the European Union has achieved a balance of interests. It was therefore right to end the negotiations in 2021.

The Finance Minister and next year's Federal President said this in the "Samstagsrundschau" program on Swiss Radio SRF. The result is now "significantly better". "We have the impression that this treaty serves to stabilize the situation with the European Union. As a bloc, this is our most important trading partner."

The cohesion contribution of CHF 350 million, which Switzerland is to pay, is still less than CHF 100 million less than the amount paid by Norway, Keller-Sutter continued. The CHF 350 million would only be due from around 2030 if the treaty came into force. The Department of Finance had expected such an amount.

"Departmental handover not optimal"

Keller-Sutter also commented on the findings of the report presented on Friday by the Parliamentary Investigation Committee (PUK) into the downfall of Credit Suisse and the role of the authorities in this case. She said that she was "not at all" nervous before the report was published.

She had been able to read in the PUK report that her department had succeeded in preventing a financial crisis.

It is not true at all when it is said that she did not inform the Federal Council well enough after CS's difficult situation became known. "There is obviously a different perception in the PUK". She had already informed the Federal Council about the scenarios that existed at the time at the third meeting following her move from the Department of Justice to the Department of Finance.

"I only heard about them when I joined the Department of Finance". The handover of the department from former Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer to her was "not ideal". She was clear about that. But Ueli Maurer was not the supervisor of the banks - just like the Federal Council.
