Lonza Expands Location in Stein

Lonza, a pharmaceutical supplier, is investing in the Swiss location of Stein, near Basel, to build a new filling plant for a biopharmaceutical product manufacturer. The plant is expected to create up to 115 new jobs and will be used to aseptically fill antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). Lonza already produces the majority of commercially available ADCs. In addition, the company is investing 500 million Swiss francs in a commercial filling plant in Stein, which is expected to be completed by 2026. This will create an additional 265 jobs in Stein. Meanwhile, Lonza's Visp site is facing the loss of its Moderna vaccine production due to reduced demand after the pandemic. However, the company is looking for alternative opportunities for the affected employees, such as a recently announced cooperation with an existing customer in Visp. This project is expected to create 180 jobs.
