Lucerne police arrest drunk speeding driver

A drunk driver sped along the A2 highway in the canton of Lucerne at speeds of up to 200 km/h late on Tuesday. Lucerne police arrested the 48-year-old Italian and seized his car.

According to a statement from the Lucerne police, the driver was traveling at 180 km/h through the Eich tunnel, where the maximum speed limit is 100 km/h, at around midnight. After the tunnel, he was traveling at speeds of up to 200 km/h.

The police stopped the driver and arrested him. A breath test showed that he had the equivalent of 1.54 per mille. The police seized the car and suspended his driver's license. The man will have to answer for speeding, among other things.
