The majority of Swiss grocery stores state their prices correctly. 83 percent of the stores stated the detailed prices and over three quarters the basic prices of the goods on offer correctly, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco) announced on Monday.

This was shown by the results of this year's Seco inspection campaign as part of the Price Disclosure Ordinance. Three quarters of the prices displayed in shop windows were correct. In the case of incorrect price information, some goods were not marked with the price or the price was not clearly legible.

Most incomplete or incorrect price information was found in the basic price information. This means, for example, the price per liter or per kilogram. This affected just under a fifth of the stores examined.

Most of the non-existent price information was found in shop windows, as reported by Seco. This applied to eight percent of the stores with shop windows that were checked. In less than one percent of cases, administrative fines or criminal charges were imposed. These were filed if the vendor concerned failed to state the prices correctly despite being given a deadline to rectify the deficiencies.

The aim of the control campaign is to raise awareness among suppliers of the importance of price disclosure as an instrument of fair competition and consumer protection. A total of 2505 food stores were examined. 613 of these stores had product offers in the shop window. The checks took place from mid-April to mid-October.
