Many Swiss households pay bills with eBill

More and more people in Switzerland are using the digital invoice called eBill. At the end of February, the number of users had risen to over three million.
The financial services provider SIX counted around 70 million eBill transactions in 2023, according to a press release issued on Wednesday. This corresponds to growth of more than 20 percent compared to the previous year.
The largest group of users is between 30 and 39 years old. In turn, the greatest growth is seen among the over 65s. Overall, over 40 percent of 15 to 89-year-olds living in Switzerland use eBill. That is more than half of Swiss households.
With eBill, consumers no longer receive their bills by post or email, but directly in their online banking. The paperless bill was introduced in its current form in 2018. Almost all banks offer eBill.
On the biller side, large telecommunications providers, health insurers, energy suppliers, public administrations and credit card providers use digital invoicing to collect their receivables. However, more and more small and medium-sized companies are also making use of this option, according to SIX.
