Many Swiss Open-Air Festivals Are Moving Away From Cash

The increasing trend of cashless festivals in Switzerland is evident, with the Gurtenfestival, Paléo-Festival, Lumnezia, Zürich Openair and Openair St. Gallen all having adopted a no-cash policy. The Paléo-Festival and Zürich Openair accept most common payment methods such as credit cards and payment apps, while the Lumnezia and Openair St. Gallen have their own cashless systems. The Gurtenfestival has a chip-card system where users can create an online account and load it with credit, with any remaining balance automatically refunded. The Open Air Gampel is the only festival that still accepts cash. The cashless systems are beneficial for both festival-goers and organisers, as it reduces waiting times and eliminates the need for money transportation.
