Media Minister Albert Rösti has reacted with regret to the announced job cuts at media company Tamedia amounting to around 290 full-time positions. However, the Federal Council will not influence the decisions of private companies, Rösti told the media in Bern on Wednesday.
"I regret such reports, it's hard for the media landscape," said the SVP Minister. After all, this is the third time that such a major job reduction has been announced.
The move shows the pressure on the media landscape. It also shows the importance of a certain amount of indirect media promotion, which he supports, said Rösti. The Federal Council does not wish to influence the decision of the Tamedia managers. "But we do not exert any influence on private companies."
The previous day, the Zurich media company Tamedia announced a reduction of 290 full-time positions for economic reasons. According to the plan, Tamedia will have 1200 employees in future. The reduction affects 90 full-time positions in the editorial department and 200 in the printing plants.
In its half-year figures, the Tamedia parent company TX Group reported a profit of CHF 24.5 million on revenues of CHF 461 million. Advertising revenues at Tamedia and 20 Minuten as well as the printing business declined.
