Price watchdog Stefan Meierhans once again received more reports from citizens in 2023 - 2775 in total. Around a fifth of the cases concerned energy prices.
Meierhans presented his annual balance sheet in Bern on Monday. In the previous year, the price watchdog received 2368 citizen reports. The number of such reports has almost doubled since the end of 2021, according to a press release. The trend reflects growing concerns among the population about the rising cost of living.
20.4 percent of reports concerned the energy sector. The healthcare sector followed in second place with a share of 13.4%.
Meierhans believes that state-related companies have a particular duty in times of inflation. He cited the agreements reached with Swiss Post and the public transport industry organization Alliance Swisspass as key results of his work. In the case of Swiss Post, planned price increases could have been reduced by 40 percent.
