The motive for the attack on passers-by in Zofingen remained unclear on Thursday. The identity of the alleged perpetrator was also unclear. The man used slashing and stabbing weapons to injure six people in Zofingen on Wednesday.
They were still in hospital on Thursday, according to the Aargau cantonal police. The background to the attack in Zofingen-Strengelbach is reportedly under investigation. The perpetrator - a 40-year-old man of presumed "foreign origin" - was also under guard in hospital care.
According to a report by Radio SRF, the case concerns an EU citizen who submitted an application for asylum on Monday and withdrew it on Tuesday. The radio station relied on information from the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM).
The police assumed it was a lone perpetrator. After he was overpowered, there was no longer any danger to the public and restrictions and behavioral recommendations had been lifted, they announced. The authorities would provide information "in due course".
