Whether healthcare networks should be created for coordinated care is a controversial issue. The Council of States would like to use this means to reduce healthcare costs. However, the National Council committee responsible rejects this.

The Social Security and Health Committee of the Grand Chamber (SGK-N) once again discussed a reform package aimed at slowing down the rise in healthcare costs.

It decided against the networks for coordinated care by 14 votes to 10, as the parliamentary services announced on Friday. The majority's position was justified by the fact that functioning, attractive offers already exist today.

In the opinion of the majority, the detailed specifications requested by the Council of States would mean that this new service provider would not be used as hoped. The potential savings could therefore not be realized. The networks were also criticized in the Council of States as a "bureaucratic monster".

To make the networks attractive for insured persons, the Council of States wants to be able to reduce the deductible for their services.

The minority of the SGK-N wants to join the Council of States and allow specialists such as doctors, physiotherapists and nurses to join forces in a service provider. The offer could be aimed at older or chronically ill people in particular.

The National Council committee has not yet finished discussing the bill. The debate will be continued at a future meeting. The committee has not yet reached a decision on the volume discounts for high-turnover medicines requested by the Council of States.
