Like "Ma vie de courgette" in 2016, the new film by Valais director Claude Barras will celebrate its world premiere at the French film festival in Cannes in May. The fable "Sauvages" will be shown as part of the Séances jeune public.
The animated film "Sauvages" tells the story of a girl who lives on the South East Asian island of Borneo and campaigns against the destruction of the forest there. Claude Barras will travel to Cannes for the 77th edition of the festival.
When asked by Keystone-SDA, the director welcomed the recognition of Swiss film, "which goes through ups and downs because we are a small country with a fragmented market due to languages".
The "Séances jeune public" selection is aimed at a "young and not so young audience". The second film for the young audience is "Angelo, dans la forêt mystérieuse" by Vincent Paronnaud and Alexis Ducord. With the homage to Studio Ghibli, the official selection in Cannes includes six animated films, as the festival announced on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
This year, Switzerland is the guest of honor at the Marché du film. The market is a meeting place for the film industry, where distributors and sales companies, among others, buy new films.
Several Swiss (co-)productions will be shown at the Croisette as part of the festival. These include the Swiss-French co-production "Le procès du chien" by Laetitia Dosch and "The Shameless" by Konstantin Bojanov with Swiss, French, Bulgarian and Taiwanese participants.
