Only Arve near Geneva still at highest risk of flooding

On Wednesday morning, only the Arve near Geneva was still listed with the highest flood risk of level 5 on the federal natural hazard portal. The Saane from the mouth of the Sense to the mouth of the Aare was still at the second-highest risk, while the situation for the other rivers had calmed down.
The Rhine from the mouth of the Aare to Basel was therefore at danger level 3, considerable, as was the Aare from the mouth of the Saane to Lake Biel, Lake Biel itself and Lake Thun. For small and medium-sized rivers throughout western Switzerland, the lower Valais and German-speaking Switzerland, the danger level was only moderate at level 2.
In the night to Wednesday, the Alertswiss warning service issued warnings of flooding in various rivers, such as the Reuss near Mellingen AG, the Saane in the Laupen-Gümmenen BE region, in the lower part of Fribourg and in parts of Valais and French-speaking Switzerland. There is also a risk of rapid water rises and landslides.
According to MeteoSwiss, widespread precipitation of 80 to 100 millimetres fell on the northern slopes of the Alps in the past 72 hours, 100 to 150 millimetres in the Glarus Alps and the Alpstein and as much as 110 to 180 millimetres in the Lower Valais and the Vaud Alps. Meteonews reported the Säntis as the frontrunner on its blog with over 200 millimetres.
