On Wednesday, the so-called Friends of the Constitution submitted the signatures for their petition to come to terms with the coronavirus era. This follows the failure of the initiative launched by opponents of the government's coronavirus measures.
The petition aims to "independently, fairly and transparently" review the coronavirus period, according to a statement from the association, which was founded in Solothurn in July 2020. It is also about learning something in order to be better prepared for future events.
The events of 2020 have made it clear how existing laws have been bent and actions legitimized by new laws and emergency legislation.
"We call for a thorough and fair investigation into the corona period by an independent and extra-parliamentary commission of inquiry elected by the people," it continued. The aim is to regain trust in the democratic processes and ensure that Switzerland continues to stand up for its values of justice and the rule of law.
According to the so-called Friends of the Constitution, there was no scientifically sound need for the measures taken, such as compulsory masks, lockdowns and social distancing, from the outset. This was also known from the outset. There was also never any danger of overloading hospitals and intensive care units.
"Vaccination flights" by the Minister of Health
With the "implantation" of the then Federal Councillor and Health Minister Alain Berset, apartheid was introduced in Switzerland and hundreds of thousands were excluded from social life, the opponents of the coronavirus measures continue to complain.
The so-called Friends of the Constitution want to ask parliamentarians to use their petition as a basis "for further political steps, such as submitting a parliamentary initiative for an independent and extra-parliamentary investigation".
