The health insurer CSS has collected too high premiums from over 600 insured persons for several years. However, 1,200 people have paid too little, as the insurance company announced at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency.
It thus confirmed a report in the Aargauer-Zeitung newspaper on Tuesday. The insured persons concerned had incorrect premium zones. According to CSS, this could be the case, for example, when entering personal data, in the event of changes or interim municipal mergers.
The 636 policyholders who paid premiums that were too high will get their money back. The 1209 policyholders who paid premiums that were too low will not receive a refund, according to the insurance company.
Repayment has limits
However, only the money that policyholders have overpaid in the last five years will be repaid. "There is an absolute forfeiture period of five years for reclaiming overpaid contributions. CSS complies with this regulatory requirement. Refunds beyond the five-year period would not be permitted," CSS wrote.
Policyholders who have paid excessive premiums and are still insured with CSS have already been informed that they will receive appropriate refunds. How former clients will receive their refunds is now being reviewed. A corresponding implementation concept must be submitted to the supervisory authorities by the end of the current year.
The insurance company is also taking measures to prevent such misrepresentations in the future, it said.
