The Swiss government is investing 5.3 billion francs in road infrastructure projects to reduce traffic congestion. This includes the expansion of the A1 motorway between Le Vengeron GE and Nyon VD, which will cost 900 million francs. The expansion of the A1 between Bern-Wankdorf and Schönbühl BE to eight lanes and between Schönbühl and Kirchberg BE to six lanes is also included. Additionally, a third tube of the Rosenberg tunnel of the A1 near St. Gallen and a second tube of the Fäsenstaub tunnel of the A4 in Schaffhausen will be built. The A2-Osttangente in the Basel area will also be relieved of through traffic with a new Rhine tunnel between Bisfelden BL and Kleinhüningen BS. The government is also investing 8.8 billion francs in the operation, maintenance and adaptation of national roads between 2024 and 2027. The Ständerat rejected the inclusion of the Moscia-Acapulco tunnel near Ascona TI in the Agglomerationsprogramm, and a proposal from a red-green minority to waive five percent of the federal contribution in cases where measures from previous programs have been insufficient was also rejected.
