Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin met the Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov in Bern on Monday. Topics of discussion included reconstruction and digitalization.
According to the Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER), the focus was on identifying Ukraine's most pressing needs as well as risk insurance and financing instruments for participating companies.
There was agreement that the digital transformation would continue to represent a key challenge in the areas of education, research and innovation. Accordingly, a deepening of bilateral cooperation between Switzerland and Ukraine in the digital transformation was discussed. For example, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs supports Ukraine in regulating digital assets such as cryptocurrencies as part of economic development cooperation.
Switzerland and Ukraine also maintain relations in the field of science. For example, the Swiss National Science Foundation supported a good 25 projects with a cooperation component in Ukraine in 2023. In addition, a call for research projects was launched with the National Research Foundation of Ukraine. The total costs for these projects, which are exceptionally financed unilaterally by the Swiss National Science Foundation, amount to a maximum of CHF 5.7 million, the EAER writes further.
