Passenger races away from the police – driver arrested

On Saturday morning, the passenger of a stopped car sped away from the police in Laufen BL. The driver had previously got out of the car at the behest of the police. Meanwhile, the passenger switched to the driver's seat and fled.
He committed several serious violations of the Road Traffic Act, according to the Basel-Landschaft cantonal police. Despite an immediate manhunt, they were unable to locate the fugitive by the evening.
The original driver of the car with Vaud license plates, a 35-year-old Frenchman, was arrested by the police. The fugitive made off in the direction of the A18 highway.
