On Thursday evening, the police began clearing the University of Bern, which was occupied by pro-Palestinian activists. This was announced by the Bern cantonal police on X. It also said that identity checks were being carried out.
Around two dozen pro-Palestine activists took over the foyer of the main building of the University of Bern in the morning for themselves and their protest. The university did not accept the new occupation and spoke of violence on the part of the occupiers.
It was a "pop-up occupation", said a spokeswoman for the collective. The group announced that it would leave voluntarily in the evening. The collective reiterated its demands for a "free Palestine".
The collective had already occupied rooms at the University of Bern in mid-May, at that time in a building in Bern's Länggass district.
