President Viola Amherd began her trip to Estonia on Monday with a visit to the NATO Center of Excellence for Cyber Defence in Tallinn. One of the people in charge presented the center's activities to the Swiss defence minister.

Amherd also met the two members of her department who work at the center in the Estonian capital. The center supports NATO member states and other countries with training, research and the exchange of experience in cyber defence issues. Switzerland has been involved since 2020.

In this context, Switzerland is taking part in the "Lockshield" cyber defense exercise in April. Twenty members of the Swiss Armed Forces will take part in the exercise from Andermatt UR, forming a team with Austria and the USA, as the Swiss defense attaché for Sweden, Finland, Norway and Estonia, Reto Senn, told a journalist from the Keystone-SDA news agency in Tallinn.

According to the website of the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defense Centre of Excellence, the annual exercise has been held since 2010. It simulates a massive cyber incident in which cyber security experts can expand their capabilities to defend national computer systems and critical infrastructure against real-time attacks. In 2022, over 2000 experts from 32 countries took part in the two-day exercise.
