Protests against new “Myride” tariff system

Consumer, transport and aid organizations are protesting against the new "Myride" fare and ticket system for public transport. This discriminates against a considerable proportion of travelers. The principle of "one journey, one price" is being undermined and price transparency is disappearing.

Access to public transport must be guaranteed for everyone, even with further digital development, demanded Caritas, the Public Transport Interest Group (Igöv), Consumer Protection, the Association of Active Senior Citizens' and Self-Help Organizations in Switzerland (Vasos) and the Swiss Transport Club (VCS) in a communiqué on Monday.

The Alliance Swisspass fare organization is testing "Myride" extensively from March. Customers' past journey consumption will determine the current price level, the e-fare. Ticket purchases are to be completely eliminated when using the e-fare. An introduction is planned in two years' time.

The whole thing runs via smartphone. For the organizations, this excludes several groups of people from public transport. Senior citizens in particular are dependent on being able to buy tickets easily, Vasos pointed out. In addition, all price reductions and bonus programs must be accessible to everyone.

For Caritas, paying after the journey is problematic for people on lower incomes. People who depend on every penny need to know the fare in advance.

According to consumer protection, personalized and dynamic tariffs prevent price transparency - a uniform standard price no longer exists. The VCS criticizes Alliance Swisspass for forcing everyone who does not travel with smartphones onto digital channels with discriminatory prices.
