Public prosecutor demands five years for Valais winegrower

On Monday, the public prosecutor's office demanded five years' imprisonment for a Valais winegrower. He is accused of buying hundreds of thousands of liters of foreign wine and selling it under the AOC Valais designation.
He is facing charges including embezzlement, fraud, forgery of goods and forgery of documents. The accused had set up a web of lies, the court was told on Monday. He had set up a fraudulent, opaque and sophisticated system. He deceived the winegrowers, customers and inspectors, according to the indictment. The proceeds from the sales are said to amount to around twelve million francs.
The public prosecutor's office therefore demanded five years in prison for the winegrower. It is also demanding that all vehicles seized during the investigation be confiscated and handed over to the canton of Valais. Furthermore, the accused is obliged to pay compensation in the amount of the profit.
