A warning strike by train drivers in passenger transport began across Germany on Thursday evening. As the strike also affects long-distance services, it has consequences for connections from Switzerland to its northern neighbor.
SBB therefore advises against traveling to Germany from Thursday to Friday evening. Tickets would remain valid. Affected trains would only run within Switzerland and would be canceled from or to the border, said Reto Schärli, head of the SBB media office, at the request of Keystone-SDA.
The canceled cross-border trains will be replaced within Switzerland, according to the SBB media spokesperson. SBB is initially advising all passengers to postpone their journey to Germany to another time.
The strike in Germany was called by the train drivers' union GDL. It is to last for 24 hours until 22:00 on Friday. The warning strike in freight transport began at 6.00 pm. Deutsche Bahn has drawn up an emergency timetable, but expects a number of train cancellations and delays on local and long-distance services.
According to the union, this is their last industrial action of the year. There will also be no further industrial action until January 7.
Deutsche Bahn welcomed the Christmas truce in principle, but sharply criticized the last-minute strike announcement and called on the GDL to resume negotiations.
