After six years of extensive renovation work, the Wallis Water Power Company Grande Dixence has put two production power plants and a pressure line back into operation. The cost of the operation amounted to 240 million Swiss francs. The Fionnay and Nendaz power plants will be fully operational again by the end of winter 2023/2024, according to Grande Dixence, the owner of the facilities, announced on Friday. The pressure line, which connects the Lac des Dix to the Rhone plain via the two power plants, has also been completely renovated. The facility had been built over 60 years ago and needed a thorough rejuvenation.
Thanks to these extensive works, Grande Dixence retains its role as a systemic facility, which can inject a lot of power into the power grid in a few minutes, thus maintaining the essential balance between supply and demand. Beat Imboden, head of Grande Dixence, is quoted in the communiqué as saying.
