According to highway operator Asfinag, the renovation of the Arlberg road tunnel in Austria should be completed as planned in November.

"From today's perspective, the time and cost plan is on schedule," said Managing Director Andreas Fromm. Around 100 million euros are being invested in the "safety and service upgrade" of the 14-kilometer tunnel between the federal states of Tyrol and Vorarlberg. There are to be no further long closures in the coming years.

The tunnel, which opened in 1978, has been closed since April 15. Among other things, it is an important section of the route between Germany and Italy. It is due to be opened to traffic on November 22, just in time for the winter season. In addition to the renewal of the roadway and the tunnel coating, a new toll station will be built near St. Jakob am Arlberg.

The detour via the Arlberg Pass worked without any problems, apart from a few peak days. Large-scale alternative routes lead via Rosenheim and Kufstein or via the Gotthard and San Bernardino in Switzerland.
