The Rock Oz'Arènes music festival in Avenches VD will no longer take place for several years. The planned renovation of the Roman amphitheater must first be completed in 2029. In the meantime, the foundation board wants to concentrate on smaller music events.

"The return of the festival to the arena is not planned before 2029 or 2030, when the work is completed," Stefano Fabbro, member of the Foundation Board, told the Keystone-SDA news agency on Wednesday. He confirmed information from the newspaper "La Liberté". After the 2023 edition was canceled, several options were examined, but no result was achieved.

The largest Roman amphitheater in Switzerland is the DNA and signature of the festival, said Fabbro. There was no question of organizing the event on the shore of a lake or in a field. "We have decided not to make a copy elsewhere," he said.

In the meantime, she is planning various projects in conjunction with other music events to keep the foundation alive. "It could be an evening at a festival. So that people don't forget us," said Fabbro.

After the temporary end of the festival, the foundation reorganized itself. It terminated the rental contract for its offices, as it no longer had any employees, and sold the stored material. Charlotte Carrel, who had managed the festival for a long time, gave up her post as artistic director last year.

The festival hopes to return to the arena once the construction work is complete, but admitted that this depends on the conditions set by the canton of Vaud for a return. "There is uncertainty. But we are confident," said Foundation Board member Fabbro.
