Five parties from the centre-left coalition have agreed to a code of conduct regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in elections and referendums. The signatories have committed to declaring the authorship of AI in audio or visual campaigns such as posters and advertisements, and to refrain from using AI in negative campaigns. The Swiss People's Party (SVP) and the Free Democratic Party (FDP) have not signed the code, with the FDP instead opting for a self-commitment to prevent the misuse of AI, particularly through ‘deepfakes’. The SVP has not committed to the code, citing difficulty in determining what constitutes a negative campaign and who would be responsible for monitoring it. The parties have warned of the potential dangers of AI, as it can be used to create realistic audio or visual content that falsely portrays other political actors. Those who misuse AI in election campaigns will be caught and exposed.
