"We knew from the beginning that we were dealing with a very big event," SBB CEO Vincent Ducrot told the media in Bern on Thursday. Nevertheless, he could not announce any good news today.

The rehabilitation of the entire roadway is the only option that guarantees long-term safety in the tunnel, Ducrot said. It requires a lot of time. "It is a variant that will keep us busy for a long time," the SBB boss said. After all, you don't quickly build seven kilometers in a tunnel. The work is complicated, he said.

SBB was doing everything it could to be able to carry out the work as quickly as possible. "It is important to us that we can make a good repair and ensure quality in the long term," Ducrot said.
