On Sunday afternoon, SBB drew a first positive conclusion from the timetable change, which has been implemented since the early hours of the morning. However, the next test still lies ahead for the Federal Railways.

There were no significant problems in weekend traffic on Sunday morning that were directly related to the new timetable, SBB wrote to the Keystone-SDA news agency.

However, only the weekday services from Monday will show whether the new train connections have been well received by commuters. According to SBB, this year's timetable change was aimed at expanding heavily frequented connections.

New direct connections

Since Sunday, there are now four direct connections between Geneva and Chur throughout the day at weekends. In Valais, an earlier connection in the morning and a later one in the evening will be introduced.

From Christmas to Easter, some public holiday weekends and then from June to October, there is a new direct connection on Saturday mornings from Zurich to Brig with a stop in Frutigen. On Sunday evenings there is a connection in the opposite direction.

Chur and Einsiedeln are now also easier to reach. There are direct connections from Zurich to Einsiedeln at weekends during the winter season. The Intercity from Zurich to Chur now runs every half hour at weekends all year round.

A half-hourly service was also planned through the Gotthard Base Tunnel. Due to the accident in the tunnel in August this year, this innovation has been delayed. Every weekend, 31 passenger trains now travel through the tunnel. From Monday to Thursday, however, all train paths in the Gotthard Base Tunnel will be available for freight traffic.
