The canton of Schaffhausen will also be in the black in 2023. The state accounts close with a surplus of CHF 16.8 million. After forming a fiscal reserve of CHF 12 million, a surplus of CHF 4.8 million remains. A deficit of 10.9 million francs was budgeted.

The main reason for the significantly better result is the tax income from legal entities, which reached an all-time high of CHF 113.1 million for the third time in a row. Companies delivered a good CHF 32 million more than budgeted.

"The canton is in solid financial shape," said Finance Director Cornelia Stamm Hurter (SVP) to the media on Wednesday. The state accounts closed with a positive result for the ninth time in a row.

The fiscal reserve of CHF 12 million is to be used for the forthcoming payments to the national financial equalization scheme (NFA). It still has to be approved by the Cantonal Council. There are already two other NFA fiscal policy reserves. Schaffhausen will change from a recipient to a donor canton in 2025 and is expecting payments of over CHF 150 million by 2029.

Net investments amounted to CHF 21.8 million. The self-financing ratio is 114.8 percent. The canton has equity amounting to CHF 769.7 million, of which CHF 304.5 million is freely available equity.
