Germany's Chancellor Olaf Scholz assumes that his governing alliance of SPD, Greens and FDP will hold out until the end of the election period next fall despite all the problems and poor poll ratings.
"I think anyone who goes to the bookmakers would be better off with this option," he said on Monday at the chief editors' conference of the German Press Agency (DPA) in Berlin. Scholz had been asked whether he would bet on the traffic light system lasting until the next general election in September 2025.
The Chancellor reacted calmly to the open expressions of sympathy from FDP Secretary General Bijan Djir-Sarai for a black-yellow coalition between the CDU/CSU and FDP. "I have no further thoughts on this. Everyone is responsible for themselves and must also consider their own perspectives wisely," said Scholz.
