What do Swiss company bosses, international politicians and top athletes do when the going gets tough? At this year's Swiss Economic Forum, the participants want to get to the bottom of precisely this question.
At the two-day event, around 1000 opinion leaders from the worlds of business, politics and science will come together in the Bernese Oberland tourist resort of Interlaken to discuss how to emerge stronger from crises under the motto "When The Going Gets Tough". The event will kick off with a discussion with the President of the Swiss Confederation, Viola Amherd. As head of the Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sport, she knows a thing or two about resilience in times of crisis - especially in geopolitically uncertain times.
This will be followed in the afternoon by interviews with former US Secretary of State Michael "Mike" Pompeo, who will talk about global challenges and joint solutions, and with former Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin, who will shed light on the current geopolitical situation.
From a Swiss business perspective, the early evening will be particularly exciting: UBS Switzerland CEO Sabine Keller-Busse and the CEO of telecoms giant Swisscom will speak together about Switzerland as a "deep tech nation". Breitling CEO Georges Kern will then give an overview of the watch industry.
In the science section, there is a speech by former OpenAI manager Zack Kass on artificial intelligence and an interview with the so-called "analog astronaut" Eleonore Poli. The famous risk researcher Nassim Nicholas Taleb also gives his view of our world today and identifies weaknesses and challenges. Finally, long-distance runner Dominic Lobalu and his coach Markus Hagmann describe their journey from refugee to top athlete.
