Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi has traveled to the emirate of Qatar for talks. He wanted to talk to Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani about the state's mediation in the Middle East regarding the return of Ukrainian children from Russia, Zelenskyi announced on social networks on Wednesday. Bilateral economic issues and the peace summit planned for the end of next week (June 15 and 16) in Switzerland, which Qatar will attend, were also on the agenda.

Ukraine has been fending off a Russian invasion for over two years. Qatar has repeatedly mediated between the two hostile states in the return of children and young people to Ukraine, but also to Russia. The International Criminal Court in The Hague has issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin on charges of abducting Ukrainian children from territories occupied by Russia.

On Thursday, Selenskyj is expected in Normandy, where he will take part in a commemoration of the Allied landings in the Second World War 80 years ago.
