SP Co-President Mattea Meyer sees the No to the BVG reform as a lesson for the conservatives. The electorate has once again made it clear that it does not want pension cuts.

In an interview with Swiss radio SRF, Meyer contradicted the theory that the bill failed primarily because of its complexity: "People have understood very well what this means for everyone, namely lower pensions."

The Zurich National Councillor named three key points for a new approach to pension fund reform. Firstly, she wants lower returns for banks and insurance companies. "Rip-offs must be combated." In addition, an inflation adjustment for existing pensions is needed in future to protect purchasing power, as well as better pensions for women.
