The SP has expressed its confidence following Elisabeth Baume-Schneider's announced move to the Department of Home Affairs. The Federal Councillor has excellent experience in the health and social sector thanks to her studies in economics and social sciences, her work as a social worker and as Director of the School of Social Work and Health in Lausanne.
"We are convinced that Elisabeth Baume-Schneider has all the skills required to lead the Ministry of the Interior with flying colors," said Samuel Bendahan, Co-President of the SP parliamentary group in the House of Representatives, in the SP communiqué issued on Thursday evening.
The 59-year-old from the canton of Jura could help Switzerland move forward in the face of the many challenges ahead, such as health insurance premiums and strengthening purchasing power.
In addition, the appointment of Beat Jans to the Justice Department is "excellent news" for human rights, the protection of the most vulnerable, people on the run and the defense of a humanistic and open Switzerland, explained Samira Marti, Co-President of the SP parliamentary group.
Jans is a politician who brings people together and builds bridges. He will undoubtedly contribute to advancing relations with partners in the European dossier.
Green Party President Balthasar Glättli believes Jans is capable of "finding solutions to challenging dossiers". "As the outgoing mayor of Basel, he knows the opportunities and challenges of migration as well as living and economic areas that cross national borders from everyday life," commented Glättli on X (formerly Twitter).
