Sports Minister Viola Amherd has congratulated the Swiss ice hockey team on winning silver at the World Championships. "What a fantastic tournament!", she said via X (formerly Twitter) after the game against the Czech Republic on Sunday evening.

Unfortunately, it wasn't quite enough to win. "I congratulate the Swiss national ice hockey team on their runner-up title and the Czech Republic on their world championship title," said Amherd.

The Swiss national team led by coach Patrick Fischer will return to Switzerland on Monday after the away game in Prague. The medal ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. in the ice rink in Kloten ZH, as announced by the association.

The Swiss national ice hockey team lost the World Championship final against hosts the Czech Republic 2-0 on Sunday evening. The Swiss reached the World Championship final for the third time after 2013 and 2018. Both times they lost to Sweden. The first time they were without a chance and lost 1:5, six years ago the decision was only made in a penalty shoot-out. And now it was also just not enough against the Czech Republic. The Swiss had to settle for silver for the fourth time. In 1935, when there were no knockout rounds, they also came second.
